The highly anticipated development of the STILLEN Generation 3 Ultra Long Tube Intake (Part #402847) for the 2009 G37 Sedan is now a reality.  Sedan owners can now benefit from the extensive R&D done with the 3.7L motor here at STILLEN.

STILLEN G37 Sedan Gen 3 Intake System

Over 50 variations of this intake were used in the development on the 3.7L Coupe to get the largest gains possible.  Gains on the G37 Sedan are 14hp and 10 lb/ft at the wheels. (Dyno below.)

The Generation 3 Intake System has a mild sound when cruising around, and an aggressive, undeniably powerful note when put under throttle.

Pricing and information can be found on the STILLEN Gen 3 Intake product page HERE.  These are in stock and shipping.

More information and a video (for approximate reference on sound) is available on the G37 Coupe Gen 3 Intake Blog post HERE.

We’re proud to announce the release of our STILLEN Generation 3 Ultra Long Tube Intake for the G37 Coupe (Part # 402846). This same intake also fits the Q60 3.7 Coupe. Some said that it was impossible to make horsepower with an intake on the VQ37HR, and we were determined to prove otherwise. This intake is the testament of the level of commitment from our R&D department, who went through over 50 variations before finalizing the design. The air filters are placed outside of the engine bay directly behind the main grille and are protected by a urethane splash guard.

Dyno Sheet and Product Photos:

Here’s the product text from the STILLEN Website:

STILLEN was the first national tuner to introduce a high flow intake for the G37 Coupe. Our first short tube intake provided a small boost in power with a great sound. Economical and easily installed, this Generation 1 Short Tube Intake became instantly popular. Some months later we introduced our Generation 2 Long Tube Intake, featuring polished tubes, even better sound and a power gain over the Generation 1. Our continuing dedication to getting the maximum performance from each vehicle has lead to the introduction of our new Generation 3 Ultra Long Tube Intake for Infiniti G37. This intake has a radically new design that provides dramatically better power than any G37 intake on the market. Our R&D team went through over 50 variations before being satisfied that this system is the best that can be made for the G37 Coupe. The new Generation 3 Ultra Long Tube Intake places two large K&N filters in front of the radiator and directly behind the main grille. Strategic placement of the filters allow for optimum cold air flow and easy filter removal for cleaning. It features additional polished tubes that pass through the front core support, larger air filters than the Generation 2 unit, a urethane splash guard to help protect the filter and a system of varied diameter tubing and steps to maximize air velocity. The power result: A dyno-proven 18.5 horsepower gain at the wheels. This translates to an estimated 22 horsepower gain at the flywheel. No other intake for the G37 can match these power gains!Recommended installation requires removal of the front fascia clip (not absolutely necessary, but significantly aids in ease of installation) and slightly enlarging the holes through the front core support. Installation time is estimated at two hours for an experienced technician. No other part relocation or parts removal is required.

Why Gen 2 and Gen 3 STILLEN Intakes?

STILLEN has been at the forefront of high-performance cold air intakes, and our journey with the Nissan Z34 and Infiniti VQ37 equipped cars has been nothing short of groundbreaking. We started with the Gen 1 Cold Air Intake, offering a small gain in power and a captivating sound enhancement. The Gen 2 Long Tube Intake refined the design and power output, becoming one of our best-selling air intake kits.

The skeptics fueled our determination to push the boundaries further, leading to the development of the Generation 3 Ultra Long Tube Cold Air Intake Kit for the Nissan 370Z. At STILLEN, all our products are designed and manufactured in-house, giving us the ability to test numerous configurations and fine-tune our designs until we achieve the desired results.

Unprecedented Power Gains [Gen 3]:

Our R&D team tirelessly tested over 50 variations before perfecting the Gen 3 design for the VQ37HR engine. The result? A dyno-proven 17.5 Horsepower (WHP) and 13 ft/lb (WTQ) gains on the 370Z with STOCK ECU TUNE. This achievement is unparalleled among performance intakes for non-turbo/non-SC’d cars.

370Z Gen3 Intake

Optimized Design for Maximum Performance:

Both the Gen 2 and Gen 3 intakes boast updated designs with integrated systems of variable diameter tubing and steps, maximizing air velocity. The strategically placed large STILLEN air filters ensure exposure to the coldest-possible incoming air, enhancing performance.

Easy Installation for Maximum Impact:

While the power gains are extraordinary, we’ve ensured that the installation process is straightforward. While removal of the front fascia clip and slightly enlarging the holes through the front core support is recommended for optimal results, it’s worth noting that the bumper removal process is quite manageable with basic hand tools.

STILLEN is excited to talk about one of the most popular parts that we’ve ever made, the Gen 3 Cold Air Intake for the Nissan and Infiniti platform.

Since 1986, STILLEN has been the leader in Nissan and Infiniti high performance tuning. In 2009 Nissan came out with the Nissan 370Z. It was a hit of a car with a 3.7 liter V6 engine. It’s a fantastic platform, one that STILLEN really enjoyed modifying.

STILLEN immediately went to work on an air intake system for the vehicle. It’s one of the things that we’re known for here at Stillen and one of the things that we really prioritize when it comes to product development.

Infiniti Q50 Intake by STILLEN

So the first thing we did was we came up with a very popular setup that we used a lot on the 350Z. It’s called “Gen 2” a short ram intake, basically it was a polyurethane air shield, an air filter and a velocity tube inside the entire system. It was a very good part that worked well but it didn’t produce a lot of power. Overall the intake improved the sound and the performance of the vehicle.

However our engineering team was dedicated to finding a system that would make a big bang. So they went to work for more than a year and came up with 56 prototypes. When the team finalized the Gen 3 long tube dual cold air intake system for the Nissan 370Z, Infiniti G37 and G35 Sedan, and the Nissan 350Z HR all four of those applications have really been successful with this Gen 3.

What’s in the Box

STILLEN Gen 3 Dual Hi-Flow Ultra Long Tube Cold Air Intake for Nissan 370Z, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G37, Infiniti G35 and Infiniti Q60

So you get the aluminum intake tubes, two air filters, mounting hardware and the STILLEN couplers. For the G37 and G35, you’ll receive a polyurethane air shield. The air shield deflect any water, debris or anything else that could damage the air filters.

The Best Intake in the Market

STILLEN Gen 3 Dual Hi-Flow Ultra Long Tube Cold Air Intake for Nissan 370Z, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G37, Infiniti G35 and Infiniti Q60

Now what makes the STILLEN Gen 3 the best cold air intake on the market? To start, STILLEN put more than a year of engineering and developing to make the Gen 3 Cold Air Intake. The intake has a 3″ inlet tube that next down into a 2.5″ inlet tube. The 2.5″ inlet tube leads all the way up to the throttle body. We have CNC machine billet aluminum mass airflow sensor bosses welded to aircraft quality 6061 T6 aluminum.

STILLEN Gen 3 Dual Hi-Flow Ultra Long Tube Cold Air Intake for Nissan 370Z, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G37, Infiniti G35 and Infiniti Q60

Some of the most popular questions that we’ve been getting lately are why did we go with aluminum and why did we go with a 2.5″ diameter tube. STILLEN’s team chose a 2.5″ diameter tube because that is the size that is closest to the factory mass airflow sensor. If we were to change that, you absolutely have to recalibrate the entire ECU. You would have to re-tune the car in order to get it to run the larger diameter tube and increasing the cost tremendously. You’re talking about a $700 tuning license and hours on the dyno. So a $500 to $700 air intake system at the absolute high end, now becomes a $1500 intake system.

We’ve had some customers tell us that they even needed new fuel injectors when running a higher tube diameter intake. Now with new fuel injectors, that has the potential to be a $3000 air intake system. For us at STILLEN, that was just not something that we felt was really necessary. The gains don’t really outweigh the cost when you’re talking about a slight increase in power over a 2.5″ that bolts right on. The Gen 3 Cold Air Intake doesn’t require any additional tuning so for those reasons we chose the 2.5″ diameter.

Pros and Cons

STILLEN Gen 3 Dual Hi-Flow Ultra Long Tube Cold Air Intake for Nissan 370Z, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G37, Infiniti G35 and Infiniti Q60

There are a number of benefits to a silicone tube. First, the cost of silicone is significantly less expensive than aluminum. There’s a lot of work that goes into an aluminum tube. Just the material cost alone and then all the labor to bend it, cut it, weld it, prepare it, polish it cost more. There’s quite a lot more cost than what goes into a silicone tube.

However, the downside with a silicone tube is that if the silicone tube is reduced to get through the front core support then that becomes a restriction. You have to modify that front core support and open it up to fit a 2.5″ tube in order to get sufficient airflow coming through in order to produce the power that you need. A silicone tube simply won’t give you the power that you need because it becomes a restriction unless you modify that front core support.

In addition to that silicone tubes, they’re significantly thicker than aluminum tube. So aluminum tubes can get away with 0.065 wall thickness, it’s a minimal wall thickness and much air volume as possible. When you go with a silicone tube it’s substantially thicker wall requires much more modification on the front core support in order to get it through without impeding the airflow.

The other disadvantage to a silicone intake tube is the fact that silicone is very flexible. Your engine is a vacuum pump, it sucks in air as hard as it can. So as you’re reaching full RPM and you have that air rushing through this intake tube and you’ve got this long stretch of open tube. The engine actually produces so much vacuum that it can actually suck the silicone shut. We’ve seen this on a number of different vehicles even some of them that come from the factory with rubber or silicone inlet tubes.

STILLEN Gen 3 Dual Hi-Flow Ultra Long Tube Cold Air Intake for Nissan 370Z, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G37, Infiniti G35 and Infiniti Q60

For that reason we felt that aluminum was going to be much more rigid, much more durable and was the ultimately the best choice to use. So those are just a few of the reasons why we chose the materials that we did and how we came up with the design for this intake system.

Final Thoughts on the Gen 3

STILLEN Gen 3 Dual Hi-Flow Ultra Long Tube Cold Air Intake for Nissan 370Z, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G37, Infiniti G35 and Infiniti Q60

STILLEN went through 56 different prototypes. It was more than a year of engineering before finalizing the design of the Gen 3 intakes. To be able to bring the best cold air intake is something STILLEN is very proud of. That’s something we try to achieve with every single STILLEN product. The Gen 3 intake system has been the most popular intake on the market for Nissan/Infiniti for the last decade.

The STILLEN design allows for the air to come directly into the intake system without being warmed by the radiator. The STILLEN intake scoop isn’t disrupted by the lattice type material in the radiator shroud. This design eliminates the pre-heating and the turbulence caused by the factory system.

With this particular air intake STILLEN has increased the volume of the air box while also increasing the flow.  The increased flow comes from the radiator shroud inlet system. Which guides air through the vehicle’s core support and into the larger poly-ethylene airbox.  This design lowers the intake air temperatures back to ambient more than 60 seconds before the factory intake system. Its far sooner than any other aftermarket intake available.

John J is a Z man today- though for years that wasn’t the case – and through a strange twist of fate, John found himself both cursed and enamored by Nissan’s legendary sportscar. John currently has a 370Z, but picked it up after getting over a bit of tragedy. The pic above you see is one of the photos of the car in its original form – a far cry from the crimson machine in the driveway today. After getting through his suite of Nissan 370Z Mods, fate stepped in to put the original car he’d dreamed about as a teenager and young adult in his driveway.

the Z31 300ZX 2+2 driven by Bruce Willis in BLIND DATE

(Bruce Willis, Driving a Z31 300ZX 2+2 in the film Blind Date… read more about that here)

“Naturally, when I was growing up, the Z was one of my favorite cars.  A cross between a muscle car and a roadster.  I fell in love with the Z31 300ZX and the pointy nose driven by Bruce Willis (this is a reference to the film BLIND DATE). For many reasons, I never purchased a Z in my youth.  Money, priorities, responsibilities or whatever it may be…  I never even had the opportunity to ride in a Z!
That changed one night in 1997, at what was supposed to be the culmination of an awesome night out with friends, John got his first chance to ride in a Z in the back of his dearest friend’s boyfriend’s Z32 300ZX 2+2.

Buckle up, it’s storytime, but stay with us here and you’ll see how this all comes full circle.

“At 3:30 a.m. on August 7, 1997,  that long awaited opportunity turned into the beginning of the worst day of my life…”

The Z became a curse in an instant when the car they were riding in side swiped a semi tanker, carrying a fuel even more dangerous than gasoline, Aviation fuel. With the 300ZX travelling at one hundred twenty miles an hour as it struck the fuel tanker, the impact was horrific, hurling the car some 800 feet down the road, pinballing off of the guardrails along the way. Even the best engineered vehicles aren’t designed for crashes at that speed – and car versus semi crashes never end well.

John’s close friend Jenny, sitting in the front passenger seat was ejected from the car, killing her instantly. The driver was injured badly, but survived the disaster. John and another friend who had also been stuffed into the back seat were very lucky, as John and the other rear passenger climbed out of the ruined hulk with hardly a scratch… but the damage was done. His close friend Jenny was gone at the age of 22, and what was once John’s dream car had now become a continuous reminder of that awful event.

19702324_10209200531985627_4316618775715917989_n

“I barely had a scratch externally… but for years after, I never looked at another Z.  I had no interest whatsoever for obvious reasons that were associated with PTSD from the accident.”  Seeing a Z was a trigger that brought back the terrible feeling of ‘survivor’s guilt’- something all too common among those who endure tragedies of this caliber- questioning your decisions wishing you had made one of a thousand decisions differently that night, and begging to change places with someone you loved, whose life was cut way too short.

John spent almost 20 years distancing himself from Nissan’s iconic sports coupe, but a simple trip carshopping for his next daily changed that.

“I didn’t look at another Z, not until March of 2016, when my search to lease a new Nissan Murano SUV with my girlfriend and life partner Sandy brought us to the local Nissan dealer.  So we are walking through the lot, talking with our salesperson about trying to get the best lease possible for the next utilitarian vehicle I will be driving, and walking towards the entrance to their dealership when Sandy pointed at these two cars sitting in front of the doors.

Naturally, like any dealership, they had their best on display -a couple of 370Z’s were front and center.  Sandy was the first to look closer and asked me to take a look at the car (noticing the affordability in comparison to leasing a Morano).  So I casually glanced at the Z at first, and then I couldn’t help staring at the car.  Since that night in 1997 I have always lived my life for two people, Jenny and I.  When presented with a decision that puts him out of his comfort zone, whether it is jumping off of a 30 foot high cliff in Jamaica or buying a defining car in his life John has always asked himself “what would Jenny do?”.

Then it hit me. I thought to myself, I am 46, kids out of the house, I have been thinking about getting something for me, I have a wonderful girlfriend that supports me, and Jenny’s memory will be a part of this car and a part of my continuing recovery.

So, rather than the Murano, we purchased the 370Z and started our mod journey to create a car that came from my heart, and bonds me with her.  The 370Z’s name is Jenny for that reason.” So out of that tragedy, John and Sandy found a way to heal, and like any good Z car, gave the car its own bit of soul – the car itself a way to memorialize a friend gone too soon. It’s not at all uncommon amongst gearheads like John, we tend to find ways to rebuild our broken hearts by turning wrenches – go to any busy car show, you’re sure to find a vehicle built in the memory of another, a way to remember those who have left our lives too soon, so our hearts never forget.

Long after John and Sandy first started their journey with Jenny, their Fairlady 370Z, a spark of inspiration nudged him to pick up a second Z… We’ll get into that other “new” car in a moment, but let’s talk about what’s been done to Jenny, this incredible Satin Red 370Z first.

As so many of us do, John started with audio -the first mod to the 2016 Nissan 370Z was upgrading the radio and audio system – and right after those, first performance parts on the list was the 370Z intake and 370Z exhaust.

IMG_20180218_184317

After doing extensive research online, on the forums, and in the local Z/G clubs to pick other enthusiasts’ brains about what the best option was, John opted to go with a STILLEN Gen 3 Intake for 370Z, matched with a STILLEN Cat-Back 370Z Exhaust for maximum effect.

The Stillen Gen 3 intakes feed into a Custom ported upper plenum

“The Stillen Gen 3 intakes are the best in breed and every other intake is referenced to it.  It opens up throttle response and lets the engine breathe.  The Stillen cat back exhaust isn’t the loudest and as a daily driver I appreciate that.  I don’t hear exhaust drone when cruising while hearing the car roar when accelerating.  Combined, my bolt on NA 370Z tuned at 330+ RWHP (with a large chunk courtesy of STILLEN).  Given their relationship with Nissan, STILLEN are who I trusted to provide the most power from my VQ37, and they came through.”

It’s no surprise the Gen III intakes are still considered one of the best possible options for naturally aspirated VQ37HR and VQ35HR engined cars – after all, we did go through fifty six – yes, 56, different prototypes before we worked out the design you’ve come to know and love that delivers the best gains available. Paired with a custom ported Upper Intake Plenum, throttle response is quite sharp.

Stillen Cat Back Exhaust / Kinetix HFCs Give the 370Z An Aggressive Roar

As far as the exhaling side of the VQ37HR’s breathing was concerned, John opted to enhance flow with the STILLEN Cat-Back Exhaust for Nissan 370Z. The oversized polished tips look great whether ensconced in the factory rear bumper, NISMO or any other option. Offering power, style and sound, the STILLEN Cat-Back is truly the complete package, offering a low-drone way to get a richer, more satisfying exhaust note out of the 370Z – you can still have a conversation with your date, codriver, business partner, dog, or whoever you talk to most often in your Z.

IMG_20180404_172652

The etched STILLEN logo on each tip gives the system a custom-tailored touch as well. After the performance modifications, next was the exterior – a new bumper, side skirt diffusers, a spoiler and a color change courtesy a custom wrap transformed John’s 370Z from ‘little black dress’ to ‘Jessica Rabbit’ aesthetic virtually overnight.

IMG_20180331_092551

Rounding out the visual modifications is a Stillen rear wing, custom-wrapped in Carbon Fiber look vinyl, adding a nice bit of detail against the intense satin red.

Lowered on Tein S-Tech Springs, the stock wheels have been swapped out for a set of Rohana RFX5 19×9.5 / 19×11 with a set of Hotchkis Sway Bars keeping the suspension compliant. Then to ensure the power is getting to both rear wheels, a 3.7 ratio viscous limited slip rear differential was fitted as well.

I’ve been given an opportunity to work through another hurdle in overcoming the events of that fateful night and embracing the anxiety of seeing a Z32 as an important step in the healing process… as a result I have fallen back in love with the Z.”

IMG_20180331_155302

As fate would have it, right after Sandy and John had started talking about what their next car purchase would be. They were considering the ‘second car’s intended use – they agreed on the idea of a convertible garage queen to drive on the weekends… and then about a month ago, a neighbor two doors down pulled a gorgeous pearl white ’90 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo [Z32 TT] out of the garage.

“Naturally, I had to talk to him (though we’d only talked twice in the 5 years we’d been neighbors) about the car… and where it came from.”

IMG_20180401_151547
“I tracked down my neighbor and got the story on the Z: It was his wife’s father’s and had been given to (my neighbors) as a wedding present.  To my disappointment, he said someone had come and put down a deposit already, but did mention whoever it was had not picked it up yet – or paid in full.” With the neighbors new car occupying the Z’s former spot in the garage, the immaculate Z32 300ZX Twin Turbo now sat in the sun, waiting for its new owner to fetch it. Surely, someone who left a deposit will be back to get the car, right? Well.. maybe not.

A few weeks go by, during which time John and Sandy rented a Mustang convertible – and ended up not liking the convertible experience in a Mustang. This got them talking again about that ‘second car’, and what they didn’t like about a convertible… so a full convertible was out, but both of them agreed they loved T-Tops. So their plan for ‘a convertible’ had changed to ‘a car with T-Tops’. It should go without saying, but while Targa roofs have stuck around, the list of “Cars that Came with T-Tops” hasn’t had any new additions in a while.
‘Hmm… what car has T-Tops…’, they mused… and like a flash of lightning it the idea struck. The Z car sitting two doors down has T-Tops, and it’s no longer in a garage and exposed to the sun!

John went to see his neighbor the next day – weeks had passed and the car was still here, so he asked his neighbor what the deal was with the Z’s buyer.  John’s neighbor said still the guy hadn’t come to get it and hadn’t heard from him in a while. So, John told him he would be more than happy to take her (the 300ZX) off of his hands right now, if he was good with it. While money talks, for some people, it’s also about who the car is going to. John’s neighbor accepted, saying, “Absolutely! I know you’re going to take care of her (the 300ZX), which will make my wife’s father very happy that the Z he loved went to a good home!”

“Naturally, I had to name her (the 300ZX) after the woman that has been there by my side and supported me through this journey. I call her mZSandy.

IMG_20180331_155727

This ’90 Z32 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo is clearly not stock – while that’s not our aero kit (our guess is WingsWest), the STILLEN badging in various places on the car and level of modification suggest there may be a few goodies of ours – either produced by or sourced by us – hidden in there. The modifications are tasteful while also offering a snapshot of 90’s tuning trends. John’s as in the dark as we are, and the car is currently being gone over at a Z specialist to work out what’s been done and what, if anything, it needs.

IMG_20180331_155854

A front strut tower brace firms up the chassis of this T-Top equipped Z32, and as was the trend, there’s an abundance of red details like the wire looms and radiator supports.

Out back, the polished mufflers of a STILLEN Exhaust for 1990-96 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo gives the car a more authoritative growl, sharper response and more power on tap when the twin turbos hit boost.

While the plan for now is to work out what’s on the car, John’s planning a STILLEN Crankshaft Pulley for 300ZX in the future. Once the check-up is complete, this beauty should be a real joy to log miles on this summer.

A big thank you to John for sharing his story & photos with us and for making us a part of his build.

Thanks for joining us, and we hope you enjoyed the photos.

A lot of the folks who aren’t big fans of the Nissan VQ-series V6es like to say that these cars can’t make power naturally aspirated. Marina’s Infiniti G37 Coupe proves otherwise. While from the outside, her G looks largely stock – you’d be hard pressed to tell her G from your average preowned G37 on the lot at the Nissan dealer where she works, yet with a good tune and the right combination of performance parts, this G37 is laying down 340 horsepower at the rear wheels, which is pretty damned impressive.

Infiniti_G37_Marina_340whp_noS (3)

Up front, the only real hint of what lies beneath is the faint hint of a set of STILLEN Gen 3 Intakes for Infiniti G37 peeking through the matte black front grille. Good for almost 20whp on their own, the Gen III Intakes definitely contribute to the car’s performance.

Infiniti_G37_Marina_340whp_NGEDIT (1)

The rear of the car sports a STILLEN Cat-Back Exhaust for Infiniti G37, paired with a set of performance headers to boot. The dual round tips compliment the G37’s styling nicely and lets the VQ sing you the song of its people with wonderful clarity. The bonus of another bump in horsepower and torque is just the cherry on top to a system that looks and sounds fantastic – and a VQ37HR at full song always turns heads.

Infiniti_G37_Marina_340whp_noS-(5)-A TRANSPARENT

To get the most out of your performance parts, while all the parts we make here at STILLEN are designed to make power on the factory ecu map without setting a CEL, it’s always best (for power) if the ECU is expecting more airflow from an intake or exhaust for Infiniti G37 coupe.

Infiniti_G37_Marina_340whp_noS-(11)

Running an UpRev “ARC” Tune, Marina’s Infiniti G37 coupe laid down 341whp and 282wtq on a DynoJet chassis dyno. Torque is almost flat as a table through 4000rpm and tapers downward as the revs shoot towards that 7800rpm redline. Horsepower is almost a straight line, rising in an extremely linear fashion before hitting peak power at 7300rpm or so. Though we haven’t driven or seen Marina’s G in person, it’s safe to say that this thing would be an absolute riot to drive on the street.

Infiniti_G37_Marina_340whp_noS-(10)

Like we said, this G37 is fairly close to stock – just a handful of basic STILLEN bolt ons coupled with a tune has really woken up the car. Here’s a better view of the STILLEN G37 intake as it appears under the hood here- as you can see there’s no cheatery going on here – just simple bolt ons.

Infiniti_G37_Marina_340whp_NGEDIT (2)

In addition to the parts directly contributing to its power output, Marina also has replaced the heavy dual-mass OEM flywheel with a lightweight ACT Performance Flywheel for Infiniti G37 and ACT 6-Puck Clutch for G37 to make sure as many ponies as possible are making it to the rear wheels. While not quite as light as the STILLEN flywheel, the ACT Flywheel is just 18.4lbs, whereas the stock flywheel is a whalloping 26lbs. While on the face of it, 7-8lbs of difference doesn’t sound like anything, but when you consider the physics involved with that part, it’s a heck of a lot more difference than just shaving 7lbs off the car’s curb weight. (Check out our post about the benefits of a performance flywheel here)

Infiniti_G37_Marina_340whp_noS-(7)

With all the basic bolt ons covered, you might think Marina’s done with power. Oh no – she tells us that “500whp is my end goal, but I’ll honestly probably end up settling for 450 or somewhere around there. I work at a Nissan dealer so I have access to all the stuff that breaks for a somewhat decent price. If I try to surpass 450whp, I’ll end up building the motor. Since it’s going to end up a track car, I’m sure I won’t want to stop at 450.”

Infiniti_G37_Marina_340whp_noS (4)

While the big stuff is covered, until the supercharger is handled, there are still a few minor mods left that can be done. “‘(while) I’m very very happy with it, I’m probably going to change my TBs soon, and do as many little things to milk as much hp as I can NA.”

It sure sounds like she’s on the right track with the build, and we can’t wait to see what it evolves into when it’s finally ‘done’.

If you’re looking to get more power out of your Z, G or Q naturally aspirated, this car proves that not only can it be done, but there’s a good bit of power to be had before forced induction. Call us today to see how we can get more out of your car!

Thanks for joining us, and we’ll see you next time.

Busy going to school in Southern California, the owner of this 2012 Infiniti G37 Sedan wanted a way to unwind and have some fun with his vehicle this summer. However, like many of our first-time customers, he is new to modified vehicles and wasn’t sure where to start. Our experts, who are enthusiasts themselves, love talking with our customers about the plans they have for modifying their vehicles and offering suggestions to help them get the most from modifications.

In this case, our experts suggested a STILLEN Gen 3 air intake kit for Infiniti G37 (good for 18whp / 13wtq on its own), STILLEN Infiniti G37 Coupe Cat-Back exhaust (another 19whp by itself). With the bolt on performance mod shopping list nailed down, this customer quickly agreed that this was the best way to get the power and performance he wanted.

G37 Sedan Dyno Chart - 56 HP Gain After Exhaust and Intake Installation and Tune

Dyno Results

Combined, the intake and exhaust helped this G37 sedan make 284 HP, which was a gain of almost 40 HP from stock. After a little refinement, we brought the final number up to 302 HP for a final gain of over 56 HP!

What’s Up Next?

Like most visitors to the STILLEN performance shop, the modifications he made during this visit are just the start. Next, he’s looking to upgrade his wheels, tires and suspension. Then, he plans on customizing the exterior with a couple STILLEN body components. If all goes well with these modifications, he’s even thinking of getting a STILLEN supercharger. Once he’s done bringing his vision to life, this is going to be one very nice Infiniti G37 Sedan!

When the re-designed 2015 NISMO 370Z came out, we were immediately intrigued by the very aggressive front fascia. Even though this car is the flagship of the 370Z variants, we were blown away by just how aggressive this design was. The original NISMO 370Z was very low slung and race inspired, but the new NISMO took the car to a different level. Naturally, our second thought was, “have they changed anything besides the exterior styling?” Well, we’re happy to report that the entire car was revisited and we like what we saw!

2015 NISMO 370Z

Inside the 2015 NISMO 370Z

On the inside, NISMO equipped the Z with some of the best seats I have ever experienced. Not only do they look fantastic, but they hold you firmly without feeling like you’re about to lose all blood flow to your legs. NISMO also upgraded the interior by way of NISMO badges and minor differences on the gauge clusters. If anything, there might be too many NISMO badges on the inside. Look at your speedometer – NISMO. Look at the seats – NISMO. Look at the gear shifter – NISMO. You definitely won’t forget that you’re sitting in a NISMO 370Z.

2015 NISMO 370Z

2015 NISMO 370Z

New for 2015 is the navigation system. In previous years, the NISMO trim levels did not have navigation, so it was a bit of a surprise to see it when we first sat in. The car that we drove was equipped with the tech package, which is a couple thousand dollars more than the standard NISMO Z. Knowing how many people wanted the tech package in previous years, I think this was a great move to offer for the new car.

Redesigned Exterior

The exterior of the 2015 NISMO 370Z  includes a whole host of changes as well. These updates include a new fascia, rockers, rear bumper, rear spoiler, and wheels. When we first saw pictures of the new design there was a big riff in the office – those who loved it and those who weren’t huge fans. I have to say, I was in the latter group. It was a bit too much for me. However, now that I’ve actually seen it in person I have to say, it’s pretty sweet and at the end of the day, it’s a NISMO. It’s meant to stand out and it’s meant to be different. There was one thing that bugged me and I kept wishing they hadn’t touched… the wheels. The 09-14 NISMO wheels are perfect. There was no need to change them.

Performance Minded

Now for the most important part… What’s it like to drive? Keep in mind; we have now been working on the 370Z for  over half a decade. We have a lot of experience with these cars and they are a pretty common site in our shop. I have personally put thousands of miles on our test cars. However, the 2015 NISMO 370Z takes the essence of the Z car and amplifies it to 11.

2015 NISMO 370Z

One of the great things about the Z is that even after driving them for years and putting tens of thousands of miles on these cars are still fun. They still handle really well, they still put a smile on your face and you still feel like you’re driving something special. The exhaust note emanating from the NISMO exhaust is authoritative, but not overbearing. If anything, it’s like a dog wearing a muzzle. You can hear the growl and hear that it really wants to bark, but it’s being held back. The 2015 NISMO 370Z would respond extremely well to STILLEN intakes and a STILLEN cat-back exhaust. For added power, the STILLEN supercharger is always going to keep that smile on your face!
2015 NISMO 370Z

Firmly Planted Suspension

The NISSAN 370Z NISMO Z34 chassis has always been one of the best handling cars on the market. To improve the handling even more, NISMO has added chassis braces in key areas to reduce flex and keep the car firmly planted. There are some additional chassis braces for the 2015 NISMO 370Z connecting the front frame rails. Unfortunately, for some aftermarket parts these will need to be removed. It is a bit of a bummer to lose the additional rigidity, but the standard car doesn’t have them and 99.9% of all drivers wouldn’t be able to tell the difference if they were there or not.

Closing Thoughts

So, what is our final thought on the 2015 NISMO 370Z? Quite simply, it’s awesome! Some people might look at this car and think “for $47,000 (as tested price) I could get a (fill in the blank).” Sure, you definitely could get another car that is in the same price range and  there are a lot of them to choose from. However, the NISMO 370Z is different. When you drive the “other car” around town, no one is going to stop and look at it. No one is going to admire it as if it’s somehow different or special. The NISMO 370Z immediately lets you know that there is something unique and special going on. Also, the NISMO Z’s have historically held their value much better than the “standard” Z models. At the end of the day, it’s up to you what you’d like to buy. If you are looking for a truly enjoyable and fun sports car with a lot of character and a desire and ability to drive hard, the Z is a hard option to ignore.
