  • Nissan/NISMO introduce elements of package for GT-R NISMO that set record Nurburgring circuit time in the U.S.*
  • Official installer: STILLEN, Costa Mesa, Calif.
  • Available in very limited numbers, contact STILLEN directly

COSTA MESA, Calif. (August 10, 2015) – STILLEN, located in Costa Mesa, Calif. has been chosen by NISMO (Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd.) in Yokohama, Japan to be the official installer of the “NISMO N Attack Package” for the U.S. marketplace.

7:08.679. That is the time that the specially-prepared GT-R NISMO claimed as a record at the famed Nurburgring Nordschleife (North Course) circuit.** Now, U.S. GT-R NISMO owners will be able to create a vehicle nearly identical to that record-setting machine for their own driveways.

Nissan GT-R NISMO with N Attack Package

Nissan GT-R NISMO with N Attack Package

The GT-R NISMO is the most potent production vehicle in Nissan’s history, designed to explore the upper limits of performance – the significance of the “R” in the “GT-R” nameplate. With 600hp and 481 lb-ft of torque*** provided by its hand-built 3.8-liter V6 VR38DETT engine – complete with GT3-spec high-flow, large-diameter twin turbochargers and improved combustion, the GT-R NISMO needed virtually no modification for the ‘Ring.

Instead, the “NISMO N Attack Package,” is developed as an optional package dedicated for “NISSAN GT-R NISMO,” including specially designed engine control and drive system parts, aerodynamics parts and suspension parts.

For the details of the product information, please visit the NISMO release below:

www.nismo.co.jp/en/news_list/2014/news_flash/140006.html.

For the past two years, STILLEN has been working with NISMO Japan to be the official U.S. installer of the NISMO N Attack package for Nissan GT-R NISMO. To prepare for the installation, STILLEN has been trained at the NISMO Omori Factory in Japan on the special assembly processes that go into each N Attack package.

President and CEO of STILLEN, Steve Millen, had this to say, “After spending the best parts of my professional racing career driving for NISSAN in the IMSA sports car series, it has been my goal to maintain a close relationship with NISSAN and NISMO. It is an honor to have my company STILLEN recognized as their official U.S. installer of such a prestigious vehicle like the N Attack GT-R.”

The busy schedule for the STILLEN R35 Nissan GT-R has finally finished with the shows and now it’s time to get back to racing!  Team STILLEN will be bringing the orange beast to Virginia City, Nevada for the first annual running of the Spectre 341 Challenge being held June 25-26, 2010.

This event is held on a closed section of Highway 341 that would normally be opened to the public.  Originally started in the early 70’s this event was pioneered by the local Ferrari clubs.  The event ran until 2002 before being shut down.  2010 marks the re-organization of the event and the new promoter Spectre 341’s involvement.  The course is 5.2 miles long with plenty of high speed long turns and narrow switchbacks.  In barely over 5 miles the event travels 1,200+ feet in elevation!!!  The current record up the hill is three minutes and 10 seconds.  Held by the president of Spectre Performance and his highly modified F40 Ferrari.  Steve Millen and Team STILLEN hope to break that record and perhaps dip under the three minute mark!

To prepare for the event the Team headed out to Spring Mountain Raceway to do a little track testing.  Spring Mountain is a good test area for this event because Highway 341 offers pretty flat, high speed turns, and a few tight twisty areas as well, very similar to a track like Spring Mountain.  The main priorities at Spring Mountain were tire testing, suspension development, and increased boost pressure.  Further development back at the shop consisted of installing GReddy Intercoolers, GReddy Hard Pipes, and a GReddy Cold Air Intake.

Never one  to miss an opportunity to challenge themselves, Steve and the Team will tow the car up to Virginia City on Thursday, race on Friday and Saturday.  Then head home Sunday.  That seems pretty simple.  However the added twist, Steve has to have the car in the container headed for New Zealand on the following Tuesday!

That leaves the team just 2 days to take the GT-R from a hillclimb car to rally car.  We’re sending the car down a little early this year as it will be one of the main exhibits in the New Zealand Speed Show event.  The New Zealand Speed Show is the largest automotive show in the country and both STILLEN Targa rally cars will be on display!  The STILLEN Ford GT will be coming back out into the spot light and will be positioned right next to the Nissan GT-R.

There is a lot going on here at STILLEN and we would like to invite you to follow along with us!!!

Nissan North America moved from Southern California to Franklin, Tennessee back in the mid-2000s. This move to the east centralized Nissan Headquarters and made the facility more accessible to fans and followers of the marque. The location of the new headquarters happened to be within two hours’ drive from the members of the Middle Tennessee Z Club. Co-founders Robert “Bob” McGehee and Randy Shemin approached Nissan North America’s public relations division and worked out the details to hold its Z ATTACK Car Show at the corporate headquarters.

The Z ATTACK event drew 83 Z cars and a dozen Nissan/Infiniti vehicles in the new Open class at the Saturday car show. McGehee commented, “Unlike the favorable weather we enjoyed at our 2014 event, foul weather forced us to relocate to Nissan’s parking structure where enthusiasts could enjoy the opportunity to catch up with other Z owners and admire a wide range of entries. We had entrants from Virginia, Georgia, Alabama and Kentucky, and from as far north as Illinois and even Canada. They all said the trip was well worth the effort.”

The weekend kicked off Friday with group tours of the Nissan manufacturing plant in Smyrna, Tennessee. That evening, the Middle Tennessee Z Club hosted a barbecue dinner and a private tour of the Lane Motor Museum. The Lane houses many significant vehicles in the Nissan Heritage Collection which are not available for viewing by the general public.

In conjunction with Nissan’s ongoing corporate support of non-profit community organizations, the Middle Tennessee Z Club collected donations which were shared with Lifehouse Animal Refuge and Rehabilitation in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. Lifehouse is a small agency that works to find forever homes for abandoned and abused animals and rescues dogs whose time has expired at kill shelters.

This will be shared with Nissan staff at headquarters and manufacturing employees in Smyrna and Decherd, Tennessee.

As the official installer of the NISMO N-Attack package, STILLEN is proud to release the first N-Attack NISMO GTR in North America. This car represents the culmination of years of planning and hard work. The NISMO team took to the N Attack challenge with the sort of dedication and passion that you would expect from a world-wide leader in race car building and vehicle development. The NISMO GTR by itself is an incredible car. However, the NISMO N-Attack package is a major improvement over the base vehicle. This is a huge accomplishment considering the base vehicle is already recognized as one of the best performance cars in the world.

Nissan GT-R Nismo by STILLEN N-Attack

“The N-Attack GTR is kind of indescribable” says Kyle Millen, STILLEN Vice President of Business Development. “As soon as we started to receive and inspect the parts, we were blown away by everything. The carbon fiber fenders are incredible. They truly are race car quality. They are CNC machined along all the flanges and mounting surfaces to ensure a perfect fit and finish. The Ohlins coil overs are far from your off-the-shelf coil overs. During the build, we learned that they are actually the same series coil over that they use on the FIA GT3 cars. It was almost a shame to install the rear wing covers as we have to cover up the beautiful billet aluminum mounting brackets. We have an in-house CNC machine shop so we know what it takes to make parts of this quality.”

The N Attack NISMO GT-R is hands down the best performance car for the money in the world. Yes, the N Attack package is nearly $100,000.00 above the base price of the vehicle, however, that is still considerably less than cars like the Ferrari 458, McLaren MP4-12C, Lamborghini Huracan, etc. Then you start to think about how many 458’s, MP4’s and Huracan’s will be built compared to N Attacks. Then to top it off… The N Attack is still faster! Not only does the N Attack look like an amazing bang for the buck, it will probably also appreciate in value as well!

We look forward to posting more build photos as we embark on the next N Attack vehicle assembly.

Now that we have reached the half way point on the installation of North America’s first Nissan GT-R Nismo with N-Attack by STILLEN, many of the project milestones have either been completed or are nearing completion and the project is really starting to take shape. Take a look at the photos and information below to see for yourself the progress of the build!

Öhlins Suspension

Öhlins Suspension

Developed to achieve the fastest times and withstand the extreme demands of the Nürburgring track, this dedicated suspension system is more compliant than the standard NISMO GTR due to the rough conditions found at Nurburgring. The Öhlins coil overs provided in the NISMO N-Attack kit are truly race pieces. They are fully compression and rebound adjustable and offer height adjustment without affecting spring pre-load. During the installation of the coil overs our Omori factory trained technician sets each component to the exact specification of the N-Attack GTR that set the lap record at Nurburgring.

Titanium Exhaust & Carbon Fiber Intake

NISMO GTR Titanium Exhaust

Carbon Fiber Intake

To prepare this Nissan GT-R Nismo for the N-Attack package and to help make the vehicle more efficient by reducing weight, NISMO Authorized technicians removed the stock exhaust and replaced it with a titanium exhaust. The titanium exhaust is an optional upgrade on all NISMO GTR’s, but is required as part of the N-Attack package if the car was not originally delivered with the titanium exhaust.

Along with the lightweight titanium exhaust NISMO also provides pre-preg “dry” carbon-fiber intake pipes which delete the factory by-pass valves. By deleting the factory by-pass valves all of the compressed air remains in the intake pipe after the throttle blades are closed. This helps to reduce turbo lag as the air is immediately available once the throttle is re-applied.

To work with the re-designed intake configuration NISMO also provides a specific ECM calibrated to the N-Attack settings.

Body Component Upgrades: Color-Matched, Dry Carbon Fenders

Color Matched N-Attack Fender

A few weeks ago, the vehicle’s stock fenders were removed and sent to Japan to color-match the N-Attack fenders. This process has been completed, the STILLEN technicians have received the new, color-matched fenders, which will be installed next week.

This week as the build progressed for North America’s first GT-R Nismo with N-Attack package, the experts from the STILLEN performance shop removed the GT-R’s motor and differentials, which are being upgraded as a part of the N-Attack package. The existing differentials are being replaced with even higher quality limited slip differentials for better control and more aggressive handling. Once the installation is complete, cornering in this vehicle will be an unforgettable experience!

N-Attack Differentials Installation

Because the installation of the differentials is such a vital part of the N Attacks performance NISMO sent Mr. Ogasawara-san to inspect the installation being done at STILLEN. Ogasawara-san was the lead technician who performed the work to the NISMO GTR during the N Attack development.

Today, the specially trained STILLEN technicians, who are working on the first Nissan GT-R Nismo by STILLEN N-Attack vehicle in North America, received a special delivery – the carbon fiber N-Attack wing! Just looking at the quality and craftsmanship of this piece alone makes you appreciate the attention to detail Nissan and Nismo put into developing their vehicles. It is quite impressive!

Additionally, the STILLEN technicians also began removing exterior body components. Nissan, Nismo and STILLEN all want to ensure that this vehicle looks as good as it performs, so the vehicle’s current fenders were removed and are being sent back to Japan to color match the new fenders. Again, this is just another example the level of care this vehicle is receiving from Nissan, Nismo and STILLEN as the package is installed.

Steve Millen and the STILLEN team have returned home from the Spectre 341 Challenge.  We had a great trip and we are already thinking of ways to improve the car for next year and see what kind of car I (Kyle Millen) can bring up there to compete in!  The team at Spectre did a great job for their first event and we are really looking forward to heading back next year!

Photo courtesy of Larry Chen / Spectre 341

The GT-R finished 2nd overall, missing the top time by 1 second. Next year we’ll be bringing back some Dunlops and should be able to pick up at least 5 or 6 seconds.  Unfortunately the Bridgestone run flats did not offer enough grip for the hill climb.  But, we knew that going into the event as the Dunlop tire is the NISSAN recommended performance tire.  Unfortunately they were out of stock though so we had to run the Bridgestone’s.

Virginia City is an amazing little town and if anyone is ever in search of a fun destination that will take them back to the old western movies, this place will make you feel like John Wayne…It is truly unbelievable!  The town is nearly 300 years old and I’m pretty sure the only modern updates are the paved roads.  The sidewalks are still wood, the buildings are hundreds of years old and they are awesome!  The locals are also extremely nice and friendly.

Steve ran his fast times of the day early in the morning on Saturday morning and around noon made the decision to pack up and head home.  He reported that the road had become too hot and the tires too slick so he felt like he had gone as fast as he could go.  As you know, we had two days to turn the car around and get it into a transporter headed for targa New Zealand on Tuesday so we all decided it was best to just save the car and head home a little early.

Here’s some photos of some of the cars at the event:

Around noon we were on the road home.  I made the 480 mile road trip in about 8.5 hours in our supercharged 370Z.  I was also really impressed that I did it on one tank of gas which means it averaged around 27 MPG!  Not bad!

Unfortunately one of the other competitors Alex (VRAlexander) Djordevic had gone off the road in the fastest section and did not survive. All of us at STILLEN would like send our thoughts and well wishes to Alex’s family and friends.
