30th Anniversary of Steve Millen Victory at Inaugural Indy Lights Race

Today marks the 30th anniversary of STILLEN founder Steve Millen’s victory at the inaugural Indy Lights race, held April 6th, 1986, at the Phoenix International Raceway.  It was also Steve’s first oval race experience, making the feat that much grander.

And to top it off, he almost turned down the opportunity. It took lots of practice laps for him to get accustomed enough to the race format and car handling to actually line up on the start grid come race day.

Ultimately, Steve overcame his instinct for survival (as usual), winning the race in Phoenix as well as another at Mid-Ohio.
