In the realm of car enthusiasts and performance upgrades, few modifications hold as much significance as air intakes. These components play a pivotal role in enhancing engine performance by optimizing the flow of air into the combustion chamber. If you’re looking to boost your vehicle’s power and efficiency, understanding the different types of air intakes and their benefits is essential.

Why Upgrade Your Air Intake?

Before delving into the intricacies of air intake options, let’s highlight why upgrading your stock air intake system is crucial for maximizing performance:

  1. Improved Airflow: Stock air intake systems are designed with compromises to meet various requirements. Aftermarket air intakes offer larger filter surfaces and smoother airflow pathways, allowing your engine to breathe more efficiently.
  2. Enhanced Filtration: Upgraded air filters, whether oil or dry filters, provide better filtration capabilities compared to stock filters. This ensures that only clean air enters the engine, reducing the risk of debris and contaminants causing damage.
  3. Increased Power: By optimizing air intake, your engine can generate more power. Cold air intakes, in particular, draw cooler, denser air from outside the engine bay, resulting in improved combustion and higher horsepower and torque figures.
  4. Customization Options: Aftermarket air intakes come in various styles and designs, allowing you to personalize your vehicle while also enhancing performance.
Dry / Oil / Oiled STILLEN Air Filter

Oiled Versus Dry

When it comes to air filters, two primary options dominate the market: oil filters and dry filters. Here’s a brief overview of each:

Oil / Oiled STILLEN Air Filter

Advantages of Oiled Filters:

  1. Water Resistance: The oil coating acts as a barrier to prevent water from entering the filter material or intake tube, making them ideal for high humidity or wet environments.
  2. Requires Periodic Re-Oiling: Ensures optimal performance and longevity of the filter, adding an extra step to maintenance but maintaining peak efficiency.
  3. Optimal Airflow: Provides slightly better airflow compared to dry filters.
Dry STILLEN Air Filter

Advantages of Dry Filters:

  1. No Oiling Required: Simplifies maintenance and eliminates the risk of over-oiling, which can damage the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
  2. Multiple Layers of Filtering Material: Utilizes multiple layers of filtering material for superior filtration efficiency, capturing even smaller particles and ensuring cleaner airflow to the engine.
  3. Effective Contaminant Trapping: Traps contaminants while maintaining excellent airflow for engine protection without sacrificing performance.

When choosing between a dry or oiled filter for your cold air intake, consider the driving conditions and your personal preferences. Oiled filters excel in wet environments and require periodic re-oiling for optimal performance and longevity, while dry filters are better suited for dry or dusty conditions and offer simplified maintenance. Ultimately, both types offer benefits that can enhance your vehicle’s performance and driving experience.

Choosing the Right Air Intake

Now that you understand the importance of air intakes let’s explore the different types available:

  1. Short Ram Intakes: Ideal for enthusiasts seeking a balance between performance and affordability, short ram intakes offer easy installation and increased airflow compared to stock systems. They provide a noticeable improvement in engine response and power output.
  2. Long Tube/Cold Air Intakes: For those prioritizing maximum performance gains, long tube or cold air intakes are the way to go. These intakes draw cooler, denser air from outside the engine bay, resulting in significant horsepower and torque increases. While installation may be more complex, the performance benefits justify the effort and cost.

The benefits of axle back systems include:

  1. Improved Sound: Experience a richer and more aggressive exhaust note without breaking the bank.
  2. Enhanced Style: Many manufacturers offer customization options, including various finishing tips such as carbon fiber, blue burnt tips, or polished stainless steel.

Cat Back Exhaust Systems:

For those seeking maximum performance gains, cat back exhaust systems are the go-to choice. Unlike axle back systems, cat back upgrades replace components from the catalytic converters to the tailpipe, eliminating restrictive elements like crush bands and mufflers.

Key advantages of cat back systems include:

  1. Optimized Performance: By employing mandrel bent tubing and less restrictive mufflers, cat back systems allow exhaust gases to exit more efficiently, resulting in increased power.
  2. Comprehensive Upgrade: Cat back systems provide a holistic enhancement to the entire exhaust system, ensuring a consistent boost in performance.

Customization Options:

One of the exciting aspects of upgrading your exhaust system is the ability to customize its appearance. Manufacturers offer various finishing tips, allowing you to choose between carbon fiber, blue burnt tips, polished stainless steel, or even unique finishes like black ceramic coating.

In conclusion, whether you opt for an axle back or a cat back exhaust system depends on your priorities. If you’re looking for a cost-effective way to enhance sound and style, an axle back system might be the ideal choice. However, if maximizing performance gains is your primary goal, investing in a cat back system will provide a comprehensive upgrade for your vehicle’s exhaust.

Upgrade your driving experience, unleash the full potential of your vehicle, and make a statement on the road with a carefully chosen aftermarket exhaust system.

The Numbers

From the factory the Z and Q50/Q60 3.0t is rated at 400 flywheel horsepower. On our dyno we saw a maximum wheel horsepower output of 336 horsepower at 6300 RPM*. This is about a 15% drivetrain loss*. Great work by NISSAN to get all of that power to the ground. After installing our Trucontrol piggyback ECU the dyno reported back a Max horsepower output of 392 wheel horsepower at 5390 RPM*. Simply by installing the Trucontrol ECU into our Z and Q50/Q60 3.0t we were able to gain more than 70 flywheel horsepower.

Even more amazing than the gains in horsepower are the gains in torque output. As you can see in the dyno the factory torque curve begins to decline at just over 3500 RPM*. At this RPM the stock car produced 338 ft. lbs of torque*. The Trucontrol by STILLEN is at 393 ft. lbs of torque*. Whereas the factory torque curve begins to decline, the STILLEN torque curve only increases further until reaching its maximum output at 4720 RPM*. At this point the factory output has declined to 323 ft. lbs*. while the TruControl by STILLEN has managed to increase to 409 ft. lbs of torque*. Truly amazing gains that make the Z and Q50/Q60 3.0t an absolutely incredible car to drive.

NISSAN Z STILLEN CAT-BACK EXHAUST SYSTEM

STILLEN is excited to release the All-New “Street Series” Cat-Back Exhaust System for the 2023 Nissan Z. During the development of this exhaust system the STILLEN engineers went through multiple different exhaust configurations and prototypes. They determine what would provide the best performance, best flow, and best sound for the new Z.

STILLEN is excited to talk about one of the most popular parts that we’ve ever made, the Gen 3 Cold Air Intake for the Nissan and Infiniti platform.

Since 1986, STILLEN has been the leader in Nissan and Infiniti high performance tuning. In 2009 Nissan came out with the Nissan 370Z. It was a hit of a car with a 3.7 liter V6 engine. It’s a fantastic platform, one that STILLEN really enjoyed modifying.

STILLEN immediately went to work on an air intake system for the vehicle. It’s one of the things that we’re known for here at Stillen and one of the things that we really prioritize when it comes to product development.

Infiniti Q50 Intake by STILLEN

So the first thing we did was we came up with a very popular setup that we used a lot on the 350Z. It’s called “Gen 2” a short ram intake, basically it was a polyurethane air shield, an air filter and a velocity tube inside the entire system. It was a very good part that worked well but it didn’t produce a lot of power. Overall the intake improved the sound and the performance of the vehicle.

However our engineering team was dedicated to finding a system that would make a big bang. So they went to work for more than a year and came up with 56 prototypes. When the team finalized the Gen 3 long tube dual cold air intake system for the Nissan 370Z, Infiniti G37 and G35 Sedan, and the Nissan 350Z HR all four of those applications have really been successful with this Gen 3.

What’s in the Box

STILLEN Gen 3 Dual Hi-Flow Ultra Long Tube Cold Air Intake for Nissan 370Z, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G37, Infiniti G35 and Infiniti Q60

So you get the aluminum intake tubes, two air filters, mounting hardware and the STILLEN couplers. For the G37 and G35, you’ll receive a polyurethane air shield. The air shield deflect any water, debris or anything else that could damage the air filters.

The Best Intake in the Market

STILLEN Gen 3 Dual Hi-Flow Ultra Long Tube Cold Air Intake for Nissan 370Z, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G37, Infiniti G35 and Infiniti Q60

Now what makes the STILLEN Gen 3 the best cold air intake on the market? To start, STILLEN put more than a year of engineering and developing to make the Gen 3 Cold Air Intake. The intake has a 3″ inlet tube that next down into a 2.5″ inlet tube. The 2.5″ inlet tube leads all the way up to the throttle body. We have CNC machine billet aluminum mass airflow sensor bosses welded to aircraft quality 6061 T6 aluminum.

STILLEN Gen 3 Dual Hi-Flow Ultra Long Tube Cold Air Intake for Nissan 370Z, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G37, Infiniti G35 and Infiniti Q60

Some of the most popular questions that we’ve been getting lately are why did we go with aluminum and why did we go with a 2.5″ diameter tube. STILLEN’s team chose a 2.5″ diameter tube because that is the size that is closest to the factory mass airflow sensor. If we were to change that, you absolutely have to recalibrate the entire ECU. You would have to re-tune the car in order to get it to run the larger diameter tube and increasing the cost tremendously. You’re talking about a $700 tuning license and hours on the dyno. So a $500 to $700 air intake system at the absolute high end, now becomes a $1500 intake system.

We’ve had some customers tell us that they even needed new fuel injectors when running a higher tube diameter intake. Now with new fuel injectors, that has the potential to be a $3000 air intake system. For us at STILLEN, that was just not something that we felt was really necessary. The gains don’t really outweigh the cost when you’re talking about a slight increase in power over a 2.5″ that bolts right on. The Gen 3 Cold Air Intake doesn’t require any additional tuning so for those reasons we chose the 2.5″ diameter.

Pros and Cons

STILLEN Gen 3 Dual Hi-Flow Ultra Long Tube Cold Air Intake for Nissan 370Z, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G37, Infiniti G35 and Infiniti Q60

There are a number of benefits to a silicone tube. First, the cost of silicone is significantly less expensive than aluminum. There’s a lot of work that goes into an aluminum tube. Just the material cost alone and then all the labor to bend it, cut it, weld it, prepare it, polish it cost more. There’s quite a lot more cost than what goes into a silicone tube.

However, the downside with a silicone tube is that if the silicone tube is reduced to get through the front core support then that becomes a restriction. You have to modify that front core support and open it up to fit a 2.5″ tube in order to get sufficient airflow coming through in order to produce the power that you need. A silicone tube simply won’t give you the power that you need because it becomes a restriction unless you modify that front core support.

In addition to that silicone tubes, they’re significantly thicker than aluminum tube. So aluminum tubes can get away with 0.065 wall thickness, it’s a minimal wall thickness and much air volume as possible. When you go with a silicone tube it’s substantially thicker wall requires much more modification on the front core support in order to get it through without impeding the airflow.

The other disadvantage to a silicone intake tube is the fact that silicone is very flexible. Your engine is a vacuum pump, it sucks in air as hard as it can. So as you’re reaching full RPM and you have that air rushing through this intake tube and you’ve got this long stretch of open tube. The engine actually produces so much vacuum that it can actually suck the silicone shut. We’ve seen this on a number of different vehicles even some of them that come from the factory with rubber or silicone inlet tubes.

STILLEN Gen 3 Dual Hi-Flow Ultra Long Tube Cold Air Intake for Nissan 370Z, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G37, Infiniti G35 and Infiniti Q60

For that reason we felt that aluminum was going to be much more rigid, much more durable and was the ultimately the best choice to use. So those are just a few of the reasons why we chose the materials that we did and how we came up with the design for this intake system.

Final Thoughts on the Gen 3

STILLEN Gen 3 Dual Hi-Flow Ultra Long Tube Cold Air Intake for Nissan 370Z, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G37, Infiniti G35 and Infiniti Q60

STILLEN went through 56 different prototypes. It was more than a year of engineering before finalizing the design of the Gen 3 intakes. To be able to bring the best cold air intake is something STILLEN is very proud of. That’s something we try to achieve with every single STILLEN product. The Gen 3 intake system has been the most popular intake on the market for Nissan/Infiniti for the last decade.

The STILLEN design allows for the air to come directly into the intake system without being warmed by the radiator. The STILLEN intake scoop isn’t disrupted by the lattice type material in the radiator shroud. This design eliminates the pre-heating and the turbulence caused by the factory system.

With this particular air intake STILLEN has increased the volume of the air box while also increasing the flow.  The increased flow comes from the radiator shroud inlet system. Which guides air through the vehicle’s core support and into the larger poly-ethylene airbox.  This design lowers the intake air temperatures back to ambient more than 60 seconds before the factory intake system. Its far sooner than any other aftermarket intake available.

The STILLEN® Cat-Back Exhaust System for the VR30DDTT Infiniti Q50 and Infiniti Q60 3.0t has an aggressive tone under hard acceleration, but mellow during cruising, with that unmistakable STILLEN sound. Years of racing and product development have taught STILLEN that relying on computer software simulations or using comparable product data is not enough to produce the best possible product for our customers. There is no substitute for physical validation especially when it comes to the Nissan’s VR30 Engine. Numerous Infiniti Q50 and Infiniti Q60 Cat-Back Systems were tested through dyno pulls and extensive data logging. STILLEN’s rigorous procedures even included testing different merge angles between pipes. The result of STILLEN’s rigorous program found a “Y-Pipe” layout similar to what is found on the Nissan GTR VR38 Engine produced the best result.

The STILLEN Cat-Back Exhaust System consist of a Y-Pipe, Mid- Pipe, and Dual Mufflers w/ Interchangeable Tips. The 2.5″ diameter Y-Pipe configuration allows for better airflow. The Y-Pipe than connects to the Mid-Pipe. The 3″ diameter Mid-Pipe than carries the exhaust gases to the rear of the vehicle where it branches back into 2.5″ diameter dual rear exit. Upon meeting the rear exhaust pipes the exhaust gases flow through the STILLEN engineered and manufactured mufflers. The 4.5″ diameter bolt-on exhaust tips enable you to adjust the tip position for a proper fit no matter what bumper or aero you choose to run at the back. Finally, the exhaust note is mild and well-mannered under normal driving conditions, but quickly turns aggressive and authoritative when under throttle. The overall size of the STILLEN Cat Back Exhaust System will differ to the Infiniti Q50 and Infiniti Q60 respectively.

STILLEN’s use of mandrel bent 304 Stainless Steel backed by a limited lifetime warranty ensures your cat-back exhaust will last. The VR30DDTT Infiniti Q50 and Infiniti Q60 Cat Back Exhaust is proudly engineered and manufactured in the USA at its facilities in Costa Mesa, California.

STILLEN’s 2017-2018 Infiniti Q60 3.0T Cat-Back Exhaust System!

STILLEN® released one of the most powerful cat-back exhaust system for the Infiniti Q60 3.0T. The twin turbo V6 VR30DDTT engine from Infiniti is a very exciting power plant that comes with a tremendous amount of potential and opportunity. STILLEN is excited to get to work tuning this baby GT-R platform!

To start with the development of this Cat-Back Exhaust System, STILLEN created multiple prototype systems. Ranging from true dual to X pipe to Y pipe with varying diameters of tube in each configuration. Having been in the business of developing high performance exhaust systems for more than three decades we have learned that there is no formula or cheat sheet for creating a performance exhaust system. The only way to find out what works best for an engine and vehicle configuration is to build and test.

Having developed a wide range of prototype exhaust systems our engineering team hit the dyno to see which configuration produced the best results. After all of the tests were completed, we were a little bit surprised to learn that the best exhaust system was lying in front of us the whole time. The twin turbo V6 Nissan GT-R favors a dual into single back to dual configuration and after our testing was complete we learned that the Infiniti Q60 VR30DDTT does too. This exhaust system features a 2.5” Y pipe which flows into a 3” mid-pipe. The 3” mid-pipe then carries the exhaust gases to the rear of the vehicle where it branches back into 2.5” dual rear exit.

Upon meeting the rear exhaust pipes the exhaust gases flow through the STILLEN engineered and manufactured mufflers. During our development, the STILLEN engineering team struggled to get the exhaust note “just right” with traditional off the shelf mufflers. This can be a common problem when working on a turbo engine as the turbo acts like a muffler and restricts the engines exhaust note. Our engineering team struggled to find the balance between too loud and too quiet until the decision was made to develop and manufacture our own muffler bespoke to the VR30DDTT platform. STILLEN has been manufacturing their own mufflers in house since 2002 with great success.

The end result of our teams tireless work is the most powerful cat-back exhaust for the Infiniti Q60 is available today. This system features 100% stainless steel construction, laser cut 304 stainless steel flanges, polished stainless steel mufflers and a selection of three different exhaust tips ranging from polished stainless steel, flame burnt torch series stainless steel, to polished stainless steel wrapped in dry carbon fiber.  All of this backed by STILLEN’s limited lifetime warranty.

STILLEN INFINITI Q60 REDSPORT 400 SEMA 2017

STILLEN INFINITI Q60 REDSPORT 400 SEMA 2017front_v2

STILLEN is excited to announce the launch of our complete line up of products for the 2018 INFINITI Q60 at the 2017 SEMA show.

The INFINITI Q60 redsport is a very exciting car as it brings performance back to the INFINITI marque.  Featuring a potent 400 horsepower twin turbo V6 badged the “VR30.”  This car offers the driver an exhilarating experience and inspires the driver to push the car aggressively.

STILLEN has been involved in performance parts for off-road trucks, supercars and street performance cars of a variety and makes and models, but STILLEN is perhaps best known for our experience in tuning NISSAN/INFINITI vehicles… we’ve been involved with developing performance parts for Nissan (and later Infiniti) for over 30 years now.  When the opportunity came to work with Infiniti on this platform, we jumped at the chance and let our engineers run wild.

INTAKE

To kick things off, we took a look at how we could beef up the car’s performance.  Our engineering team immediately began dissecting the air intake system to study it and determine how we could optimize airflow. While the engineering team was busy with figuring out how to get every last pony out of the intake, our fabrication team were hard at work under the car, reviewing the exhaust routing, tube diameter, configuration of the system and the construction of its muffler, all in order to see what gains could be made.

STILLEN INFINITI Q60 REDSPORT 400 SEMA 2017 3R1A0019 Cover off

After going through more than 20 prototype intakes trying to achieve our goals, our induction specialists produced a Q60 Intake design that yielded a huge gain of over 20 horsepower at the wheels, and that’s without the need for further tuning or any modifications to the vehicle. Not every ‘high flow’ intake on the market works with the OEM ECU map, so making sure our intakes benefit the car with the stock tune is a high priority for our design team. The end result is what you see above – the urethane airboxes offer a significant advantage over an exposed conical filter, as the airboxes ensure that the intakes are drawing in only cool, outside air, rather than sucking in hot air from inside the engine bay (which robs you of power). Designed as a complete solution, the STILLEN Cold Air Intake for 2017 Infiniti Q60 comes complete with silicone couplers, CNC machined and tig welded aluminum MAF tubes as well as poly-urethane air boxes to keep the engine fed with cooler air, helping to deliver maximum power output.

EXHAUST

STILLEN INFINITI Q60 REDSPORT 400 SEMA 2017

Turbo V6 engines are notoriously difficult to get the sound “just right.”  In the end, our team was not satisfied with any of the common mufflers we could source “off the shelf.”  The only option was to build our own.  So, we engineered our own mufflers, manufactured them in house, and pack them with a high temperature ceramic wool.  These tuned mufflers truly allow the heartbeat of the car to be experienced. The final exhaust design was selected after 15 different prototype systems were rigorously tested on our Dynojet chassis dyno.  It took quite a while to determine what the engine wanted in order to produce the most power across the entire powerband.  The end result is a tuned Y-Pipe, leading to a single Mid-Pipe which branches back into a dual outlet exit.

BODYSTYLING

STILLEN INFINITI Q60 REDSPORT 400 SEMA 2017

With the performance parts development underway, now it was time to address the exterior styling. The Q60 is a fantastic looking car straight out of the factory, but like a nice tailored suit, it can look even better with the addition of the right accessories. To bring out the car’s flowing lines, we opted to wrap the car with a red chrome wrap.  The brilliant luster of the red chrome accentuates all of the angles and curves of the body of the car and truly ‘makes it pop’. The Q60 has a very organic, free flowing design, and the hyperreflective red chrome shows off these daring curves and deep creases exceptionally well.  Like any car, we felt it could be a bit more aggressive and could do with some aero styling to really accentuate the curves the car comes with. The STILLEN design team then set to work shaping a Front Bumper Splitter featuring STILLEN Front Bumper Splitter for 2017 Infiniti Q60 – (with Winglet Extensions). With the front end spiced up to our satisfaction, we shifted our attention over to to the rear of the car, the STILLEN craftsmen then created a set of side splitters and rear spats to suit the aggressive feel we were going for.  Both of these parts were custom fabricated exclusively for the STILLEN Q60.

Finishing off the ground effects package, STILLEN designed a Rear Diffuser for the Red Sport V36 Infiniti Q60 with a set of aggressive air channels and openings for a larger-than-stock dual exhaust.  The STILLEN diffuser for Infiniti Q60 is no “one off” for a show car – this part is a production item you can purchase and install on your own Q60, along with the rest of the aero suite, including the STILLEN front splitter and winglets. While these days the majority of aftermarket manufacturing seems to be done overseas, but at STILLEN, we make all of our products right here in the USA. Every single STILLEN aero or appearance upgrade, intake and exhaust system is designed and manufactured in the USA, right here at STILLEN headquarters in Costa Mesa, California. Not everyone realizes that here at STILLEN we fabricate pretty much everything in-house,  exterior parts, intakes, exhausts, suspension bits — our CNC machines, benders, welders and a team of experienced and talented craftsman makes it possible to do everything here. Now that we had the ground effects completed, the team still felt like our Q was still missing something.  The rear end still lacked something, so next, the STILLEN artists then turned their attention to the rear spoiler.  The initial idea was a simple, clean spoiler that would added a bit of height to the deck lid.  After a few design studies, the team decided to step it up and came up with something that would compliment the dynamic lines of the Q60’s design, and created a custom hand crafted rear wing that completes the car and ties in beautifully with the overall design concept.

SUSPENSION

With the power and exterior styling completed it was time to focus on supporting all of that extra power and downforce.  To do so, the STILLEN team partnered with RSR suspension, who used the STILLEN Q60 to develop and prototype a set of coil overs that are truly incredible.  One difference that sets STILLEN builds apart from other SEMA showcars is that our cars are built to be driven. Our Q60 Redsport is no trailer queen – this car was driven to the show and then driven home.  Since this car would be seeing hundreds of miles of actual road use between STILLEN HQ in Costa Mesa and Las Vegas, it was vital that the car not only look good, but could also retain its handling performance. The team at RSR hit another home run with the RSR Coilovers for 2017+ Infiniti Q60 we had fitted to the car – we really enjoyed these dynamic coil overs.  The ride quality is fantastic when cruising on the freeways and the car carves through the canyons with ease.

To make sure that the alignment was correct after the coil over installation and subsequent ride height lowering, SPC suspension provided a complete set of adjustable suspension including front upper control arms and SPC Suspension Rear Camber, Toe and Setback links for 2017 Infiniti Q60.  By installing the adjustable SPC suspension the STILLEN technicians were able to precisely dial in the alignment ensuring excellent handling characteristics

No car would be complete without the right wheel and tire package.  Wheels are one of those items that can make or break a car.  For years STILLEN has chosen VOSSEN Wheels for 2015+ Infiniti Q50 / Q60 and NITTO tires for their vehicles.  On this car though they wanted something a little different.  To accomplish this the STILLEN team selected the Vossen X Work line of wheels.  Particularly, the VWS-1.  Work wheels is a leading Japanese manufacturer of high end wheels and the collaboration between Vossen and Work has resulted in a melding of Japanese technology with American style.  These two piece wheels feature a high luster polished lip with a matte  gunmetal center and polished anodized barrel.

NITTO tires have been the preferred tire for STILLEN for many years.  Offering a wide range of tire selections for everything from race cars to passenger cars and even offroad vehicles.  For the STILLEN Q60 project STILLEN selected the INVO series of tires.  INVO tires are designed specifically for the luxury sports car enthusiast.  They offer excellent performance and grip without sacrificing comfort.

We’re thrilled with the end result of how our 2017 SEMA project came out – the team here at STILLEN feels that the Q60 we put together strikes the perfect balance between high end street luxury, with design inspired by our race-winning heritage tempered with elegant style.

STILLEN Vice President Kyle Millen had this to say of the project:
“The STILLEN Infiniti Q60 project car is one of my favorite cars out of the many projects we have created.  The team at STILLEN did an amazing job and made a car that is truly one of a kind.  From the work of the body craftsmen, the engineers and fabricators working tirelessly on the performance parts, I am extremely proud of the effort put into this car and the end result.”

With so much hype around the Infiniti Q50 and the new Twin Turbo V6 it will be receiving we think some people forgot that the new Q60 was being released soon. Well, today all of you two door lovers out there got a big treat.

Infiniti released the 2017 Q60 today at the Detroit Auto Show and it is beautiful. The new Q60 will come with the same engine options as the 2017 Q50. A 400 HP (350 lb-ft) Twin Turbo V6 at the top of the line up, a 300 HP (295 lb-ft) Twin Turbo V6 will be the middle option, and the entry motor will be a 208 HP (258 lb-ft) 2.0 Turbo Inline 4 (for more analysis on the Twin Turbo V6 motor please see our blog article “An Aftermarket perspective on the new Nissan/Infiniti VR 3.0 Twin Turbo V6“).

It is not clear yet, but it seems all versions will be available with AWD. Twin Turbo V6 variants will come with the 2nd generation of the Direct Adaptive Steering (DAS) which will hopefully prove to be much better than the first generation. Infiniti is also adding a 2nd suspension option that they are calling the Dynamic Digital Suspension (Standard on Sport Models) which will allow you set you suspension for the right occasion.

All of these new options and upgrades made the Infiniti Q60 a much more appealing car in a very competitive segment. Though the 400 HP variant will probably run in the $50k range, we are certain that the mid level 300 HP Version will be able to be modified to compete with the big boys the way the BMW 435i has compared to the M3.

The Infiniti G37 Coupe has been an immensely popular car for STILLEN to modify and is an absolute stunner. We can all agree that Infiniti/Nissan has their work cut out for them when it comes to the new 2015 Infiniti Q60 (G37 Coupe’s new name) slated to be released for the 2016 Model Year. We had yet to see many good renderings, but then we came across this.

Needless to say, we just became even more excited about the Q60! Now this is just a rendering from Japan. However, if the production model looks this good, we think Infiniti will have a worthy successor to the G37 Coupe.

2015 Infiniti Q60 – The Next King of Luxury?

Stemming from our success with the new Q50, we can only imagine what we will be able to do with this new platform. Just imagine the 2015 Infiniti Q60 fitted with a full STILLEN Aero Kit (Splitter, Sides, Diffuser, and Wing), Vossen Wheels, and Dropped on RS*R Coilovers or even more extreme; bagged on AirREX Digital Air Suspension System. We believe this car could be an industry leader in styling, performance, and luxury. The Q50 has already shown that Infiniti wants to take a bigger market share. We are hoping with the release of the new Q60 we will see some new engine options as well. While the VQ37 has been a stellar performer for Nissan/Infiniti, we hope they have been saving something special for us all. Regardless, the VQ37 power plant is still an industry leader in HP and torque so we would not be surprised to see it in the first production models. STILLEN will continue to offer performance upgrades no matter the engines available. With a look this aggressive, we can only think about the breathtaking sound of STILLEN Intakes and exhaust singing along with the engine as the Q60 eats up the miles and puts a smile on everyone’s face. With a new shot at taking down the industry giants like BMW, Lexus, Audi, and Mercedes; we think the Q60 will have more than a fighting chance.
